The secret to this thick and creamy sausage gravy is the cream cheese. The perfect ingredient (in my opinion) to thicken and cream a sauce with no added carbs.
If you don't have any cream cheese on hand, you can always thicken your gravy with some tapioca flour or arrowroot powder. Two common ingredients used in keto recipes for thickening.
I'm using oregano, sage, and thyme for my spices, but you can really use anything you like. Fresh or dried also works.
How To Make The Sausage Gravy
- Preheat a medium frying pan over medium heat.
- Once the pan is hot, add some avocado oil to the pan.
- Add your sausage with the salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili flakes, onion powder, thyme, sage, and oregano.
- Brown your breakfast sausage and break it up into pieces with your spatula as it cooks.
- Once your sausage is done cooking, add in the cream and the cream cheese in small pieces.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and whisk gently to break up the cream cheese.
- The gravy will thicken as it cools.
