Keto Sausage Gravy

I LOVE this keto sausage gravy because it's just my regular sausage gravy, but without any flour as a thickener. It's perfect over my keto biscuits. Or if you're not into keto, this still goes perfectly with my flaky buttermilk biscuits!

The first time I made this keto sausage gravy for my partner, he was blown away. He couldn't believe it was keto. I really think it's the spices that take this gravy over the top. And if you're not keto? Well, I still think you will love this recipe. My kids sure do!

Ingredients

The secret to this thick and creamy sausage gravy is the cream cheese. The perfect ingredient (in my opinion) to thicken and cream a sauce with no added carbs.

If you don't have any cream cheese on hand, you can always thicken your gravy with some tapioca flour or arrowroot powder. Two common ingredients used in keto recipes for thickening.

I'm using oregano, sage, and thyme for my spices, but you can really use anything you like. Fresh or dried also works.

How To Make The Sausage Gravy

  1. Preheat a medium frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Once the pan is hot, add some avocado oil to the pan.
  3. Add your sausage with the salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili flakes, onion powder, thyme, sage, and oregano.
  4. Brown your breakfast sausage and break it up into pieces with your spatula as it cooks.
  5. Once your sausage is done cooking, add in the cream and the cream cheese in small pieces.
  6. Bring the mixture to a simmer and whisk gently to break up the cream cheese.
  7. The gravy will thicken as it cools.
  8. Serve the gravy over my fluffy keto biscuit recipe and top with fresh green onions.

FAQ

Can you eat almond flour on keto?

Yes! Almond flour is low in carbs and high in healthy fats. It's a popular substitute for traditional flour in baking and cooking, allowing keto dieters to enjoy many baked goods and dishes

What are other ways to thicken gravy without flour

You can make a rich, thick gravy that's keto by using flour alternatives such as coconut flour, almond flour, flaxseed meal, and sunflower seed flour, xanthan gum, heavy cream, sour cream, or cream cheese.
