What Liz takes on

Liz takes a small number of commissions a year and each one gets her full attention. Sculpted cakes come first. These are the projects she says yes to.

Sculpted 3D cakes

Animals, characters, objects, vehicles. Carved and built from real cake, structured to travel and to be cut and served.

Yes, this sneaker is cake. Liz created it, laces, scuffs, and all.

Hyperrealistic cakes

Faces, food, and everyday objects rendered so closely that guests need to see the knife go in to believe it.

Event showpieces

Large-scale centerpieces for product launches, brand events, and milestone parties, with delivery and on-site setup.

Chocolate sculptures

Not every showpiece needs to be cake. Figures, busts, and centerpieces carved, cast, and finished entirely in chocolate. They hold their shape all event long and can be kept or eaten.

Unique wedding cakes

Wedding cakes nobody has seen before, taken on case by case: sculpted, painted, built around a story. Classic tiered cakes priced per serving are better served by Sorcha at Cascadia Kitchen.

Celebration cakes

Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, showers, and the parties that deserve a showstopper. Taken on case by case, with the same $1,500 minimum.

A Portland custom cake artist with a national reputation

Liz Marek has been making custom cakes for Portland and Vancouver, Washington clients for more than fifteen years, and her sculpted cakes have appeared on Food Network's Halloween Wars and Netflix's Is It Cake?. Whether you need a sculpted birthday cake in Portland, a hyperrealistic showpiece for a brand event, or a one-of-a-kind wedding cake in Vancouver WA, every commission is designed and built by Liz herself.

How it works

1. Send the inquiry

Tell Liz the date, the idea, and the budget you have in mind. She replies to every inquiry within 48 hours.

2. Quote and sketch

If it is a fit, you get a flat quote based on the days it will take to build, plus a concept sketch. A $500 non-refundable retainer holds your date and starts the work.

3. Build and deliver

Liz builds it in her studio and delivers it herself, set up and ready to cut. She needs at least 30 days notice for every commission.

Tell Liz about your cake

The more you share, the faster Liz can tell you whether it is a fit and what it would cost.

I understand commissions start at $1,500 and that Liz takes a limited number of projects each year.

    Liz Marek

Liz has been sculpting cakes for more than fifteen years and has spent the last ten teaching other people how. Every commission is built by Liz herself, in her studio, and most of them turn into a tutorial afterward, so your cake helps teach thousands of bakers too.

    Good to know

    Minimum commission
$1,500. Liz's work is priced at $500 per studio day, and three days is the smallest build she takes on. Bigger pieces are quoted the same way, as one flat price, never per serving.

    Retainer
A $500 non-refundable retainer books your date and starts the work. It counts toward your total.

    Lead time
At least 30 days. Sculpted work takes planning, so the earlier you reach out, the better.

    Delivery
Liz delivers and sets up custom cakes throughout Portland, Vancouver WA, and anywhere within about two hours, in Oregon or Washington.

    Servings
Sculpted cakes are sized for the look first. Tell Liz your guest count and she will make sure everyone gets a slice.
